Reclaim Your Self  in Nature

Growing up in a small, remote community in Northern Ontario, surrounded by nature, I spent my childhood and teen years playing and camping among the trees. From building forts, and foraging nature's beings to sleeping next to a campfire by the water, nature has been in my DNA since I was born.

 

Moving to Sudbury, while still surrounded by beautiful nature, I had only one goal: study, make friends, and become a thriving adult.  The problem was that there was a deep part of me that was longing for something, and I couldn't quite put my finger on it.  For years I went about my life, a little aimlessly trying to figure it all out.  I did all the things I was "supposed" to do, but somehow, I lost myself along the way.   

 

A few years ago, I started practicing mindfulness and rediscovered nature in the process. I forgot how nurturing, comforting, and grounding nature is.  Being a small Northern Ontario town girl, having been raised by the forest, it's not a surprise that I have reconnected with it in the way I have! My love for nature has guided me to become a Certified Association of Forest and Nature Therapy (ANFT) Guide to offer you some unique nature immersion experiences.  

 

With expertise and care, I guide you through immersive encounters with the natural world, encouraging you to disconnect from the digital realm and the business of life and embrace the relaxing benefits of nature. Originating from Japan, Shinrin-Yoku, or "forest bathing," is a practice deeply rooted in immersing oneself in nature to enhance physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Developed in the 1980s in response to growing urbanization and its associated stress, Shinrin-Yoku highlights the therapeutic benefits of spending time in forests. The ANFT has embraced Shinrin-Yoku as the foundation for its forest therapy practice, enriching it with innovative methods to deepen the forest therapy experience.

Scientific research has since validated the numerous health benefits of this practice. Studies have shown that spending time in natural environments like forests can reduce stress hormones, lower blood pressure, boost the immune system, and improve mood. Additionally, forest bathing has been linked to increased creativity, enhanced cognitive function, and a greater sense of overall well-being.

The healing properties of nature are attributed to various factors, including exposure to phytoncides, natural aromatic compounds emitted by trees, and the calming effect of being surrounded by natural greenery and the gentle sounds of nature. By immersing yourself in the beauty and tranquility of the forest, you can experience a profound sense of rejuvenation, grounding, and connection to the natural world and reconnection to yourself.
